Description

So far I always thought that the island of Circe was Corfu, but on Capri I've heard this was Circe's island. I'm confused.

Corfu is much too Far East. Ithica is west of Corfu. The siren islands are in southern Italy and are near Circe’s island. The name of her island is Aea, meaning the island of dawn and the island was said to move. When viewed from the mainland, Capri is often invisible due to humidity or hidden in afternoon sunset shadow. In the morning, the white cliffs glow pink, and Capri is indeed the island of dawn. Even in the Middle Ages, sailors would avoid it because they said witches lived on the island. The name, Capri, means “goats” as if it was once a place of sacrifice and ritual.

the deep cliffs off the coast create a geoid  gravitational anomaly that draws boats to the cliffs with currents, and Odysseus stayed there for many years. Tradition in the nearby town of Sorrento has it that the first king of Sorrento and the founder of the city was a grandson of Circe and Odysseus.
